A total of 31 areas covering 14,962 hectares in Opar have been approved for perimeter surveying under the first phase of the New Initiative NCR Land Survey Programme as of Apr 30 this year.
Deputy Premier and Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the approved areas included four documented by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).
He said 27 areas, including the four DBNA areas covering approximately 11,825 hectares, have completed perimeter surveys while two other areas covering 1,846 hectares are currently undergoing surveying works.
“One area namely Kampung Stungkor Baru covering 371 hectares will begin surveying works in the near future. Meanwhile, surveying works for Kampung Serayan Hilir covering approximately 314 hectares could not be carried out due to objections raised on site,” he said.
He said this when responding to issues raised by Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
On the issuance of land titles, Awang Tengah said a total of 1,411 land titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code for agricultural use have been registered and are ready for handover under the second phase of the New Initiative NCR Land Survey Programme.
“Another 413 residential land titles have also been registered through the Traditional Village Programme,” he said.
Responding to matters raised by Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii, Awang Tengah said the state government had approved in 2020 for the Pujut Corner squatter colony to be allocated residential lots at the Lusut Settlement Area.
He said the area had been approved for in-situ settlement resolution, allowing existing residents to remain there.
“The Land and Survey Department has prepared a suitable layout plan and will focus on issuing Temporary Occupation Licences (TOL) to residents retained in the area.
“The land boundary verification works are currently being carried out for residents from the Pujut Corner squatter colony who had been offered relocation to the Lusut Settlement Area in line with the decision of the Sarawak State Squatter Management and Resolution Committee,” he said.
Awang Tengah also called for the cooperation of elected representatives, local residents, community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) to help ensure the matter can be resolved smoothly.
