The Jiwa Murni Project has built 461km of rural roads and 82 Bailey bridges in Sarawak since 2009 to improve connectivity in rural areas.

Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said out of 11 Jiwa Murni road projects, nine have already been handed over to the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak, while two are still undergoing defects repair works.

He said the government has also carried out intensive repair and rehabilitation works on several roads under both state and federal funding.

“Under state funding and completed by PWD are Jalan Belaga–Menjawah, Jalan Long Luping–Ba’kelalan, and Jalan Miri–Marudi.

“Projects completed under federal funding include Jalan Kuala Mendalam ke Meruyu dan Kerangan Ma, upgrading works for Jalan Skim Sepupuk in Niah, Jalan Rh Satu Kuala Mendalam, and Jalan Bario ke Pa’Lungan,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May 20).

“These roads must be improved to enhance the safety and quality of life of the community, while also opening up greater opportunities for local economic growth.

“The government will seek a special allocation or introduce a new programme to carry out these works,” he said.
