THE First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) adjourned sine die at 6.14 pm today (May 20) after eight days of proceedings.
DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar announced the adjournment after a motion was tabled by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting.
Among the key legislative highlights of the sitting was the passing of the Sarawak Padi and Rice Board Bill, 2026, which paves the way for the establishment of a dedicated state agency to oversee and drive the development of Sarawak’s padi and rice industry.

The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was also passed, aimed at modernising and strengthening the SEDC Ordinance to ensure the corporation remains responsive, relevant and capable of supporting Sarawak’s future economic aspirations and development agenda.
The amendment includes replacing the term “general manager” with “group chief executive officer”, introducing the definition of “secretary” to reinforce governance, and reconstituting the corporation’s membership to include “any other relevant field” to broaden its pool of expertise.
Also approved was the establishment of a Special Select Committee to evaluate the Ombudsman’s annual reports, ensuring that all recommendations, findings and reprimands are duly complied with and implemented by the government.
In addition, the Supplementary Supply (2026) Bill, 2026 was passed, approving an additional allocation of RM1,323,340,000 for the year 2026.
