KUCHING: The development of the 3,000-acre Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP) is expected to gain momentum with the completion of a temporary steel bridge across Sungai Serai by the end of June this year.
The bridge will connect the KPGTP to the Demak Laut Industrial Park, enabling heavy equipment, machinery and solar panels to be transported into the project site.
Zecon Bhd’s Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, said the temporary bridge is a key component in accelerating the first phase of the green technology park’s development.
“Due to our priority to commence Phase One of the 100MWac large-scale agrivoltaics solar farm, the temporary steel bridge is being constructed to enable work at the site to begin.
“Once completed by June this year, it will be used to transport heavy equipment across the river, trucks for earth dumping, as well as the delivery of machines and solar panels,” he said during a site visit last Saturday (May 16).
The six-metre-wide bridge is designed to support loads of up to 120 tonnes.
Morshidi, together with Zecon’s Group Managing Director, Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad, and Chief Operating Officer, Brandon Goh Mun Han, inspected the bridge construction and Phase One solar site preparation works.

KPGTP is Zecon’s flagship green development masterplan powered by 300MWac of renewable energy through a large-scale agrivoltaics solar farm.
The first phase, covering about 300 acres, involves the development of a 100MWac solar farm that will supply green energy to Sarawak Energy Bhd under a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed in October 2025.
The project’s Scheduled Commercial Operation Date has been set for December 2027.
Morshidi said approximately 150 acres of the Phase One site had already been cleared and are expected to be fully cleared by August this year.
He added that Zecon obtained a 30-year 300MWac solar generation and distribution licence from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (MUTS) in February 2025.
“The positive progress shows Zecon’s commitment not just in ensuring that the 100MWac solar project can be energised as planned, but also reflects growing confidence in the KPGTP development masterplan,” he said.
Meanwhile, construction of the permanent 153-metre Sungai Serai bridge adjacent to the temporary structure is expected to begin immediately after the temporary bridge is completed.
The permanent bridge is scheduled for completion in August 2028 and is expected to improve connectivity between Demak Laut Industrial Park, the New Sejingkat Bridge, Samarahan and Bako.
Morshidi said approval-in-principle for future phases of KPGTP positions the park as a future-ready green energy and high-technology hub that could further strengthen investor confidence in Sarawak’s long-term green economy ambitions.
