KUCHING: A woman was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to possessing methamphetamine earlier this year.

Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu handed down the sentence on 40-year-old Pauline John, ordering the jail term to run from the date of her arrest on February 6.

Pauline was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.

According to the case facts, the offence took place at about 10:45 am on February 6 in a rented room of a shoplot near Jalan Penrissen, Padawan.

A team from the Padawan District Police Headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department detained Pauline on suspicion of involvement in drug-related activities.

During an inspection of the room, police personnel discovered a small transparent plastic packet containing crystalline substances suspected to be syabu inside the right pocket of a pair of light blue denim shorts hanging by the window.

The accused admitted owning the drugs found during the raid.

The seized substance, initially weighing 0.25 gramme, was later sent to the Department of Chemistry Malaysia for laboratory analysis on February 10.

A chemistry report dated May 14 confirmed the substance contained 0.05 gramme of methamphetamine.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani. Accused was unrepresented.
