KUCHING: The ‘Jualan Agro Sarawakku Sayang’ (JASS) programme continues to assist the public in obtaining fresh food supplies at lower prices through special sales.
Organised by the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (M-FICORD), the programme offered various fresh products, including chicken, eggs, meat, fish, fruits and locally grown vegetables.
M-FICORD’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, Sayed Ismail Nasiruddin Wan Hashim, said the programme reflected the state government’s commitment to helping the people cope with rising living costs.
“This initiative is also aligned with the National Food Security Policy and the National Agrofood Policy 2.0, which emphasise food availability and affordability,” he added.
He said this to reporters at the JASS programme at the Bangunan Baitulmakmur compound here today (May 22).
“This programme not only enables consumers to enjoy savings of up to 30 per cent but also creates direct market opportunities for local entrepreneurs without involving middlemen,” he reiterated.
He added that the implementation of JASS also strengthens the state’s agrofood ecosystem through the participation of contract farming entrepreneurs, guided entrepreneurs, manufacturers and local product processors.
Meanwhile, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Sarawak’s Director, Norsalawaty Abdul Kadir, said consumer response towards the programme has been highly encouraging since its introduction last year.
She said a total of 11 JASS sessions have been implemented this year, recording overall sales of RM266,060.91 involving the participation of 67 entrepreneurs throughout Sarawak so far.
“FAMA will continue expanding the programme to residential areas, government premises and selected retail outlets to ensure easier access to fresh food supplies for the public,” she added.
Among the main attractions during today’s programme was the offer of 600 JASS combo packs priced at RM15 each compared to the original price of RM20, featuring various daily necessities.
In addition, eggs were sold at RM12 per tray, fresh chicken at RM10 each, local beef at RM50 per kilogramme and quail meat at RM20 per packet.
