KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd has received recognition from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia after achieving more than 12.5 million safe manhours without lost time injury (LTI) across the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

The ‘Safety Achievement Award’ was presented during a recent visit by Deputy Director of DOSH Malaysia, Bahrudin Mamat, to the SR10 Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Interchange Station construction site at Simpang Tiga here.

Bahrudin said the achievement reflected strong commitment towards workplace safety practices, particularly within large-scale infrastructure projects involving complex construction activities and multiple contractors operating simultaneously across project sites.

He noted that maintaining more than 12 million safe manhours without serious workplace incidents demonstrated effective coordination, continuous monitoring, and shared responsibility among contractors, consultants, and project management teams involved throughout construction phases.

Apart from the main award, appreciation awards were also presented to key contractors contributing towards the milestone, including Sri Datai JT CHM Sdn Bhd, AZAM IJMC UDSB Sdn Bhd, Ibraco China Railway Engineering Corporation Joint Venture (Ibraco CREC JV), Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd-China Railway First Group Co Ltd Joint Venture (CRFG JV), and EPR MOBILUS Global Rail Joint Venture (JV).

Following the presentation ceremony, Bahrudin and DOSH Sarawak’s Director, Jamadi Yusup, toured the SR10 ART Interchange Station construction site to observe ongoing progress and safety compliance measures implemented by project contractors and technical teams.

The DOSH delegation also visited the Kuching Autonomous Rapid Transit Assembly Facility (KAAF) at Demak Laut, where assembly and preparation works for the ART vehicles are currently underway.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Metro’s Chief Executive Officer, Ts Mazli Mustaffa, expressed appreciation to DOSH Malaysia for recognising the company’s commitment towards prioritising workplace safety throughout the implementation of the KUTS project.

Mazli said the milestone served as an important reminder for Sarawak Metro and all contractors to continuously strengthen safety culture as construction activities intensify across various project packages and operational areas.

He added that Sarawak Metro remains committed towards maintaining high occupational safety and health standards, ensuring every development milestone is achieved responsibly while safeguarding workers, stakeholders, and surrounding communities.
