KOTA SAMARAHAN: Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim has allocated 21 sacrificial cattle for villages, suraus, mosques and government agencies throughout the constituency in conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.
The contribution was announced during the Stakan Sacrificial Cattle Handover Ceremony at the Stakan Service Centre on Friday, with the presentation officiated by political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Afiq Fikri Brahim, who represented Hamzah.
Afiq said the annual initiative reflected the assemblyman’s continued commitment to assisting local communities in performing the ibadah korban (sacrificial ritual) while ensuring that underprivileged groups would also benefit from the distribution of sacrificial meat.
“The price of korban portions in the market has continued to rise, but Datuk Hamzah hopes this initiative will help ease the burden on the people and facilitate the implementation of korban programmes at the village and community levels,” he said.
He added that the Stakan Service Centre had capped the price of a korban portion at RM250 to enable more people, especially those from lower-income groups, to participate in the religious obligation this year.
According to him, the 21 cattle will be distributed to various villages, suraus and mosques, including Surau Darul Iman Taman Samarindah, Masjid Ar-Riyadh Taman Samarindah, Kampung Pangkalan Kuap, Kampung Jawa Semenggok, the Muslim and convert community at Flat Taman Sri Muhibbah Mile 13 and Taman Unigarden.
Several government and security agencies are also among the recipients, including the 1st Division Army, PMT Army, the Samarahan Division Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Heart Centre and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS).
During the ceremony, Afiq also announced that Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang had allocated an additional five cattle for distribution to selected locations within the Stakan constituency.
He noted that proceeds collected from the sale of korban portions could be used by organising committees to cover the operational costs of their respective sacrificial programmes.
At the same time, he urged all recipients to prioritise genuinely needy families in the distribution of sacrificial meat to ensure the benefits are enjoyed widely across the community.
The programme underscores the continued commitment of the Stakan leadership towards strengthening community solidarity, promoting public welfare and fostering close ties between elected representatives and residents during the Aidiladha celebration.
Also present were Colonel Zulkifli Mustafa of the Armed Forces Religious Corps (KAGAT) under the Eastern Field Command Headquarters and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Stakan branch secretary Sarkawi Suhaili.
