BETONG: Sarawak will celebrate the official birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong here from June 11-14.

The four-day celebration will feature cultural, religious and community programmes aimed at strengthening patriotism, unity and appreciation for the constitutional monarchy.

Minister-in-charge, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said preparations were progressing smoothly with support from deputy ministers and organising committees.

He said the celebration symbolised loyalty and respect towards the Yang di-Pertuan Agong while reflecting Sarawak’s enduring spirit of harmony and patriotism.

“Five deputy ministers have been appointed to coordinate programmes, including exhibitions, food festivals, thanksgiving ceremonies, official gatherings and entertainment activities throughout Betong,”he said in a press statement on Monday (May 25).

A special Raja Kita exhibition at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan is expected to attract an estimated 10,000 visitors.

The exhibition will highlight the history, responsibilities and importance of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong institution within Malaysia’s constitutional administrative framework today.

“Betong Kitchen, another featured programme, will showcase traditional delicacies and local cuisine while promoting Sarawak’s culinary heritage to visiting communities throughout the celebration,”he said.

Special Friday sermons statewide on June 12 will emphasise obedience towards leaders, unity among Muslims and prayers for national well-being and prosperity.

He added that an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony organised through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) will gather representatives from six faiths celebrating Sarawak’s multicultural harmony and mutual respect.

A thanksgiving gathering at Masjid Jamek Betong will include congregational prayers, Yasin recitation and religious reflections promoting gratitude and social stability among communities.

The celebration will conclude with an official tea reception and a people’s concert featuring performances by local and national entertainment artistes in Betong.

Sikie encouraged residents across Sarawak, particularly Betong communities, to participate actively and strengthen appreciation towards Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy during the celebration.

He added organisers expected strong attendance throughout the celebration, reflecting continuing public support for the royal institution and Sarawak’s diverse community spirit statewide.
