SERIAN: The establishment of Community-Based Rehabilitation Centres (PPDK) continues to provide training and guidance opportunities for persons with special needs in efforts to develop their skills and enhance their ability to live independently.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the existence of PPDKs is crucial in providing structured training for trainees who require special attention.
He said that having more centres of this kind would benefit the local community by creating greater opportunities for persons with special needs to receive proper training and guidance.
“I believe this area has an advantage because we truly need more centres like this, but they must be maintained and supported by the relevant departments,” he said during the PPDK Hidup Mesra Teng Bukap Pre-Gawai Celebration held at the Kampung Peraya Multipurpose Hall today (May 26).
As such, he hoped that the management and instructors of the PPDK would work closely with the Social Welfare Department and the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development to plan suitable skills development programmes for the trainees.
Sagah, who is also Tarat assemblyman, said that about 20 trainees at the centre possess their own unique potential that could be developed through training in technical fields, entrepreneurship, handicrafts and various other skills according to their interests and abilities.
“The most important thing is that they have skills for the future and are able to be independent. We cannot rely entirely on parents because one day they will need to take care of themselves,” he added.
He stressed that every child with special needs has unique talents that should be discovered and given the opportunity to grow.
