KUCHING: The spirit of unity embodied in the Dayak philosophy of ‘Segulai Sejalai’ will continue to be the driving force behind Sarawak’s transformation into a more advanced, smart and sustainable state.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak is fortunate to enjoy peace and harmony despite its rich diversity of religions, ethnicities and cultures.
“The spirit of “Segulai Sejalai” that we embrace goes beyond mere words. It has become the foundation of unity that binds the people of Sarawak together as one large family.
“That said, Gawai Dayak is more than a traditional celebration of the Dayak community as it serves as a symbol of gratitude for the blessings and prosperity shared by all Sarawakians,” he said in his Gawai Dayak message today (May 31).
He stated that Sarawak’s achievements and aspirations could only be realised if its people continue to remain united, preserve stability and safeguard the trust and harmony that have long been the state’s greatest strengths.
In light of this, he called on Sarawakians to renew their commitment to building a more progressive, intelligent and sustainable Sarawak for future generations.
Abang Johari said the transformation being implemented by the state government is not solely about economic development, technology or infrastructure.
It is also about creating opportunities, improving the people’s quality of life and ensuring that every Sarawakian shares in the prosperity being built together.
“With strong leadership and the unwavering spirit of unity among our people, I am confident that Sarawak will continue to emerge as a progressive and competitive region at both the ASEAN and international levels,” he said.
He urged Sarawakians to move forward with confidence, courage and the spirit of “Segulai Sejalai” in pursuit of a brighter future for the state.
