SEOUL: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has urged Sarawakian students in South Korea to return home after graduation and contribute to the state’s development.

Speaking during an engagement session with members of the Persatuan Pelajar Malaysia Korea (PPMK) on Saturday (May 30), he said Sarawakian students abroad remain valuable assets to the state and have an important role to play in its future development.

“Whether you are here in Seoul or anywhere around the world, the Sarawak Government views you as our most valuable asset overseas. Our support is global because our vision is global.

“We are constantly keeping track of your progress, and our goal is to make sure that no matter where you go in the world, the bridge connecting you back to Sarawak remains wide open and strong,” he said.

He said Sarawak is rapidly advancing under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, with growing opportunities in green energy, digital technology, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, smart infrastructure and the semiconductor industry.

He pointed out that the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap 2030 is aimed at developing a comprehensive high-tech ecosystem that will require skilled professionals, including engineers, scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs and technology specialists.

“SMD Semiconductor plays an important role in supporting Sarawak’s transformation journey. Through strategic partnerships, international collaborations, research initiatives, and talent development programmes, SMD is helping to strengthen Sarawak’s semiconductor ecosystem while creating opportunities for Sarawakian talents to be part of the industry’s future growth,” he said.

Encouraging students to make the most of their time in South Korea, Awang Tengah urged them to learn from the country’s technological advancements, discipline and work culture before bringing those experiences back to Sarawak.

He also said while the state government is laying the foundation for Sarawak’s future, it will be the younger generation that ultimately drives the state forward.

“Contributing back means bringing your global perspective back to our ecosystem. Whether you join a multinational company, start your own business or introduce new ideas to local industries, your homeland needs your brains and your energy.

“We are building the foundation, but your generation is the one that will actually run the future Sarawak. We are waiting for you,” he said.
