KUCHING: The spirit of Gawai Dayak celebration was made even more special for a family with the arrival of a healthy baby boy born during the festive season at KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital.

Jovita Jati Jilenan Narok welcomed her son on June 2 at 9.05am. The baby, weighing 3.93 kilogrammes, was delivered safely under the care of obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Wendy Loh Leh Hung.

The newborn’s arrival coincided with the Gawai Dayak festivities, making him one of the cherished “Baby Gawai” births celebrated during the annual harvest festival.

Both mother and baby are reported to be in good health.

The birth has brought immense joy to the family, adding another reason to celebrate during Gawai, a festival that symbolises thanksgiving, unity and new beginnings for the Dayak community.

As families across Sarawak gather to mark the harvest festival, the birth of a Baby Gawai serves as a heartwarming reminder of hope and the promise of a bright future for the next generation.

“Selamat Hari Gawai, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai” takes on an even deeper meaning for the proud family as they celebrate the newest addition to their household during this festive season.
