LUNDU: The younger generation, especially in rural areas, must seize the various educational opportunities provided by the Sarawak Government to secure a brighter future and uplift their families’ livelihoods.

Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, stressed that education remains the most powerful tool to transform the future of individuals, families and communities as a whole.

He noted that Sarawak is currently on a rapid development trajectory, unlocking new opportunities across the economic, technological and high-skilled industrial sectors.

“This new era of development demands more high-quality human capital to lead and drive the state’s progress in the future.

“Therefore, youth in the Opar constituency must prioritise education and pursue higher studies to capitalise on these upcoming opportunities,” he said when officiating at the 2026 Opar Constituency Educational Incentive Assistance presentation ceremony at the CENTEXS Lundu Campus today.

During the event, a total of 129 students from the Opar constituency pursuing diploma and bachelor’s degree programmes received financial incentives.

Commenting on the initiative, Billy explained that the assistance aims to alleviate the financial burden on families covering early admission costs into higher learning institutions.

While the amount may seem modest, he is optimistic that it will significantly help students meet immediate needs such as transportation, accommodation and study materials.

“Education not only opens doors to better career prospects but also shapes thinking, enhances decision-making capabilities, and produces individuals who can contribute back to society,” he added.

He also reminded the recipients not to rest on their laurels with just a diploma or degree, urging them instead to continuously upgrade their skills and qualifications to remain competitive in a challenging job market.

Also present were Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Niponi Undek; Lundu District Officer, Zulkarnain Ismail; Lundu District Council Secretary, Wan Fauzi Wan Ismail; and CENTEXS Lundu Campus Head, Dr Nor Ashikin Abdul Rahman.
