SPAOH: Parents in the Bukit Saban constituency have been urged to take full advantage of the state government’s Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) to ensure their children receive better educational opportunities and brighter prospects for the future.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to empowering human capital development while providing fairer access to higher education, particularly for those in rural areas.
He said education remains one of the state government’s key priorities in its efforts to produce a knowledgeable and skilled workforce capable of meeting Sarawak’s future development needs.
“Education is among the important agendas that continue to receive attention from the state government as we strive to nurture a generation equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to support Sarawak’s future growth and development,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Bukit Saban State Assemblyman’s Gawai Dayak 2026 Open House held at the Spaoh Community Hall on Friday (June 5) as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, said the free tertiary education initiative covers Sarawak-owned institutions, namely Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), i-CATS University College, Curtin University Malaysia and the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS).
At the same time, he expressed his appreciation to the people of Bukit Saban for their continued support throughout his tenure as their elected representative.
He said the unwavering support of the people has enabled the government to plan and implement more development projects, particularly infrastructure initiatives that directly benefit local communities.
He also thanked Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) for their important role in helping to disseminate government policies and development agendas at the grassroots level.
