KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg remained tight-lipped today (June 6) when asked whether the 13th Sarawak Election could be called within the next 100 days.

The question was posed by reporters after he officiated at the opening of the 12th Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair 2026 at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre today (June 6).

When asked if the state election could take place within that timeframe, the Premier offered little indication of his plans.

“I don’t know. Ask Dr Sim. I don’t know,” he said.

The question comes after Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian suggested that the next state election could be held within 100 days.

Dr Sim, at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) 67th anniversary flag-raising ceremony on Thursday (June 4), said the election was “around the corner” and urged party members to prepare themselves for the coming contest.

His remarks fuelled speculation over the timing of the polls, although the current term of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly is not due to expire until early 2027.

Meanwhile, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information Chief, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the timing of the election remained the Premier’s prerogative.

However, Abdul Karim acknowledged that Dr Sim’s assessment could be possible, noting that the election date ultimately rests with Abang Johari as chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Premier of Sarawak.

As speculation continues to mount, Abang Johari’s brief response today offered no further clues on when Sarawakians may next head to the polls.
