SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch’s Mobile Service Team continues to conduct its community outreach by providing assistance to residents in applying for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), the RM500 Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB), and guidance on downloading and using the SMC Cares mobile application.
The outreach was held on Saturday (June 6) at Passion Corner, Sungai Bidut, of the West Bank here.
Bawang Assan Branch Chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, said that many senior citizens face difficulties navigating online application procedures as more government services are on digital platform.
He added that the mobile service team aims to help residents access the benefits offered by the government.
During the outreach, the team received numerous enquiries and applications for the KGC.
However, Lau explained that as applications must now be submitted through an online system, applicants are first required to download the Service Sarawak application, followed by the registration of an SPay Global e-wallet account and completion of the necessary verification process before they can proceed with the KGC application.
“For younger people, these steps may not be difficult. However, for some senior citizens, downloading applications, registering accounts, setting passwords, and completing online forms can be quite challenging,” he stressed.
During the outreach, the team not only assisted residents in downloading and registering their Service Sarawak and SPay Global accounts, but also guided them step by step through the application process to ensure that all required information was properly submitted.
“Each applicant’s situation is different, and the registration and online application process can be time-consuming. We hope residents seeking assistance will be patient and cooperate with our volunteers throughout the process,” he said.
Lau, who is also SUPP Youth Chief, assured that the Bawang Assan Branch will continue organising mobile service activities.
Upcoming sessions will be announced through newspapers and social media platforms so that residents in need can seek assistance conveniently.
Lau encouraged those who are unfamiliar with online application procedures, particularly senior citizens interested in applying for the KGC, to attend future service sessions where the team will assist them in registering for Service Sarawak, setting up their SPay Global accounts, and completing their KGC applications.
“This is one of the key purposes of our mobile service programme. Beyond bringing services directly into the community, we hope to help those who are less familiar with digital technology overcome technical barriers, so that they do not miss out on government assistance simply because they are unable to use smartphones or online systems,” he said.
He added that the Bawang Assan Branch will continue upholding its commitment to serving the community by reaching out to the grassroots and providing information and assistance on various government welfare initiatives, ensuring that more eligible residents will be able to benefit from the programmes.
