KUCHING: Sarawak’s historical heritage and knowledge are set to be enriched through efforts to produce a historical book on the Banting Malay Kingdom.

The initiative was among the key topics discussed during a breakfast meeting involving Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, together with Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) Publication Centre director Associate Professor Dr Firdaus Abong Abdullah and his wife.

The meeting focused on efforts to to write a historical book on the Banting Malay Kingdom, referencing the research thesis of Azuan Jemat from the University of Malaya, writings by Sarawak historian Prof Datuk Dr Sanib Said, as well as biographical books on James Brooke produced by various orientalist writers.

The discussion also explored attempts to trace historical links between the Banting Malay Kingdom and the family lineage of Wan Junaidi, based on relevant historical references and documented studies.

Meanwhile, Wan Junaidi, in a Facebook post today (June 6), expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to the preservation, documentation, and expansion of Sarawak’s historical heritage and knowledge.

He added that this would ensure the state’s historical legacy continues to be safeguarded and utilised by future generations.
