LAWAS: The New Bandar Lawas Iconic Bridge has reached 97.27 per cent completion and is currently nine per cent ahead of schedule, with full completion expected by September this year.
According to a Facebook post by Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), ongoing works are focused on mechanical and electrical (M&E) installations as well as the installation of the bridge dome structure.
It noted that the stitching of the bridge structure has also been successfully completed.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also chairman of the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), recently conducted a site visit to inspect the progress of the project and receive updates on the latest developments.
Also present during the visit was Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to become a new landmark for Lawas, featuring distinctive tower arches, suspension cables and decorative LED lighting.
Spanning 642 metres across the Batang Lawas River, the bridge will improve connectivity between Jalan Pulau Salam on the northern side and Kampung Ladang Baru on the southern side of Lawas town.
RECODA said the project is expected to significantly reduce travelling time across the river while providing easier and more efficient access for residents and road users.
The bridge forms part of efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in northern Sarawak, supporting economic growth and improving accessibility for local communities.
