PADAWAN: Rural residents have been encouraged to make full use of village land through modern and commercial farming activities to increase their income and boost the local economy.
Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said activities such as paddy cultivation, banana farming, and other income-generating crops can help improve the livelihoods of rural communities.
He also proposed developing agro-tourism projects, including homestays and glamping sites that showcase the scenic paddy fields in the Rabak Bah area of Kampung Punau.
Such initiatives, he said, could become a new source of income for local residents.
“The government is always ready to assist if residents show commitment and determination in developing their areas,” he said when speaking at the Kampung Punau 2026 Rami Sibayan Nga Man Tubi Bauh Celebration recently.
Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, stressed the importance of basic infrastructure such as agricultural roads, electricity supply, and irrigation systems to support more organised agricultural development in Kampung Punau and the wider Mambong constituency.
The celebration was held in a lively atmosphere and featured the rich customs and culture of the Bidayuh Bisegu community, helping to strengthen unity among residents.
Various cultural and traditional activities were held throughout the programme. Besides strengthening community ties, the celebration also served as an ongoing effort to preserve Bidayuh cultural heritage for future generations.
