DALAT: SMK Semop, Daro has completed its classroom construction project 164 days ahead of schedule without requiring an Extension of Time (EOT).
Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the early completion reflects strong project management, efficiency and commitment by all parties involved in ensuring timely delivery of government projects.
The accomplishment was announced during the Majlis Penyerahan Projek Siap 2 Dalam 1 involving SMK Dalat and SMK Semop, which Nanta described as a meaningful initiative that will bring long-term benefits to the people, particularly in the Mukah Division.
“Both projects reflect the government’s continuous commitment under the Malaysia MADANI framework through the Works Ministry (KKR) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to strengthen national education infrastructure,” he said in his speech during the ceremony held at SMK Dalat, here today (June 8).
The ceremony marked the official handover of two completed education projects, namely the replacement building of 18 classrooms and other facilities at SMK Dalat, and the new construction of a 12-classroom building and other facilities at SMK Semop, Daro.
He added that the initiative is aimed at providing a safer, more conducive and modern learning environment, while supporting efforts to produce knowledgeable, skilled and competitive future generations.
For SMK Dalat, the project includes the construction of a new academic block comprising 18 classrooms, along with supporting facilities such as workshops, laboratories, sports management rooms and the School Textbook Loan Scheme Operations Room (BOSS).
Nanta said additional facilities were also provided, including a canteen, surau, guard house, utilities and sewerage systems, parking areas and covered walkways to ensure comfort, safety and convenience for students and school staff.
Meanwhile, the SMK Semop project involves the construction of 12 new classrooms equipped with modern facilities, including infrastructure designed to be friendly to Persons with Disabilities (OKU) such as accessible toilets, parking bays and ramp access.
Supporting facilities at SMK Semop also include water supply and sewerage systems, electrical and mechanical installations, a pump house and covered walkways, aimed at creating a more comfortable and conducive learning environment.
According to Nanta, both projects were implemented by the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2), JKR Malaysia, using the Design and Build method as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance education infrastructure nationwide.
The SMK Dalat project was awarded to Welfield Services Sdn. Bhd. on November 22, 2022, with a contract value of RM27.19 million, while the SMK Semop project was awarded to KSB Global Sdn. Bhd. on December 26, 2023, worth RM10.55 million.
“The successful completion of both projects not only strengthens school facilities but also serves as an inspiration for teachers and students to strive for excellence in education,” he said.
Nanta also expressed appreciation to all parties involved and reminded contractors to uphold integrity and responsibility, especially in addressing any defects during the Defects Liability Period (DLP), while urging JKR to maintain consistent post-handover monitoring to ensure all facilities remain in good and safe condition.
