KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received separate courtesy calls from the newly appointed Commander of the 1st Infantry Division and the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M Main Organising Committee at Astana Negeri Sarawak here on Wednesday.
In the first meeting, Wan Junaidi received Major General Mohd Sobirin Mohd Yusof, who was recently appointed Commander of the 1st Infantry Division based at Kem Muara Tuang, Kota Samarahan.
The courtesy call served as an official introduction following his appointment and provided an opportunity to discuss matters related to state and national security.
Among the topics discussed were developments along Sarawak’s borders, the role of the Malaysian Armed Forces in maintaining peace and stability, and increasingly complex security challenges at the regional and global levels.
The discussion also touched on efforts to strengthen the nation’s defence industry, including the production of local defence assets such as drones, ammunition and military equipment, as well as the welfare of military personnel and current geopolitical developments.
Wan Junaidi expressed his appreciation for the commitment, professionalism and readiness demonstrated by personnel of the 1st Infantry Division in safeguarding Sarawak’s sovereignty and security.
The couple also conveyed their best wishes to Major General Mohd Sobirin in carrying out his responsibilities and continuing to enhance the division’s excellence.
Later, Wan Junaidi and his wife received a courtesy call from the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M Main Organising Committee led by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs Coordinator) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The delegation extended an official invitation to Junaidi and Fauziah to attend the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah celebration, which will be held in Miri on June 16 and 17.
Miri has been selected as the host division for this year’s celebration, which will feature various programmes, including the End of Year 1447H and Beginning of Year 1448H Prayer Ceremony and the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah Assembly.
Wan Junaidi thanked the committee for the invitation and expressed hope that the celebration would strengthen unity among Muslims while fostering a deeper appreciation of the spirit of hijrah as a foundation for personal and community development.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to attend and deliver a special address during the celebration.
