KUCHING: AirBorneo has apologised for the recent flight delays and cancellations that disrupted travel plans across Sarawak and Sabah over the past few days.
Its chief executive officer (CEO) Megat Ardian Wira said the disruptions were caused by several aircraft being unavailable at the same time due to scheduled maintenance and technical rectification works.
He said the situation was further affected by delays in the delivery of key replacement components needed for the affected aircraft.
“I would like to sincerely apologise to all guests affected by these disruptions.
“We understand the frustration, inconvenience and uncertainty this has caused, and we deeply regret the impact on our guests and their families,” he said in a statement.
Megat said the airline’s immediate focus is to restore reliable services while ensuring every aircraft continues to meet the highest standards of safety and airworthiness.
He added that AirBorneo has introduced additional operational and maintenance measures to strengthen fleet resilience and support the gradual return of normal flight schedules.
“Recent events have been disappointing, but they do not change our commitment to serving the people of Sarawak and Sabah.
“We know we have work to do to restore confidence, and we are determined to earn back that trust through the actions we take every day,” he said.
As part of its long term plans, Megat said the airline is moving forward with its fleet renewal and expansion programme, including the planned introduction of ATR 72-600 aircraft.
He said the additional aircraft are expected to improve operational resilience, provide greater flexibility across the network and strengthen air connectivity throughout Sarawak and Sabah.
According to the airline, affected passengers have been contacted for rebooking arrangements, refunds and other travel assistance.
It added that meals, accommodation and ground transportation have also been provided where necessary.
