BINTULU: SK Orang Kaya Mohammad has entered a new era with the completion of a modern school building worth RM42.74 million, providing enhanced facilities and a more conducive learning environment for its students and staff.

The redevelopment of the school, which has been in operation since 1912, reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening access to quality education and improving educational infrastructure in Sarawak.

Senior assistant director of the Infrastructure and Procurement Sector at the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), Masnah Abang Abu Bakar, said the project demonstrates the government’s dedication to ensuring students have access to quality and comfortable learning facilities.

“Today’s ceremony symbolises the government’s commitment to empowering access to quality and conducive education for our children in Sarawak,” she said during the handover ceremony for the completed SK Orang Kaya Mohammad and SMK Samalaju projects on Wednesday (June 10).

Masnah said the new school is equipped with 30 classrooms, an administration block, academic blocks, a preschool, a canteen and various supporting facilities designed to enhance the comfort and well-being of the school community.

She added that the upgraded facilities would enable teaching and learning activities to be carried out more effectively in line with current educational requirements.

Meanwhile, Bintulu Division engineer of the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Ir Lau Sie Hung, said the project forms part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure in Bintulu Division.

He noted that, alongside SK Orang Kaya Mohammad, JKR Sarawak also handed over the RM57.62 million SMK Samalaju project, which features 36 classrooms, two hostel blocks capable of accommodating 450 students and 24 units of teachers’ quarters.

According to Lau, both projects were successfully completed through close collaboration between the Ministry of Education Malaysia, JKR Sarawak, contractors, consultants and various technical agencies involved.

He said the completion of the projects reflects the government’s continued commitment to providing modern, safe and high-quality educational facilities to support human capital development and further enhance educational excellence in Sarawak.
