JULAU: SMK Julau now officially has a Form 6 study centre, marking a new chapter in the district’s educational landscape, bringing long-awaited post-secondary education facilities closer to local students after more than six decades of anticipation.
The development is accompanied by several infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing learning conditions and improving school comfort.
Meluan assemblyman, Datuk Rolland Duat Jubin, said the initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to strengthening access to education, especially in rural areas.
Previously, he said that SPM leavers from SMK Julau and SMK Julau No. 2 had to pursue Form 6 studies at SMK Meradong, resulting in higher travel costs and additional daily expenses for families.
“The opening of Form 6 at SMK Julau not only provides wider opportunities for students, but also reduces the financial burden on families and ensures more equitable access to education.”
He said this during a visit to meet Form Six students at SMK Julau on Wednesday (June 10).
He added that, with continued support from the government and the Ministry of Education, the school has received its first intake of 98 students placed in three classes for the current session.
To support the growing student population, several development projects are being implemented, including a new multipurpose hall under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) with an allocation of RM500,000.
The school dining hall will also be upgraded with a RM350,000 allocation to provide a more comfortable environment, while a new RM100,000 entrance gate will be constructed to enhance the school’s identity and surroundings.
In addition, three Form 6 classrooms will be equipped with air-conditioning to ensure a more conducive learning environment.
He expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia, the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), and the District Education Office for their cooperation in making the initiative a success.
He hoped the improved facilities will help boost academic performance and produce more knowledgeable, skilled, and competitive local students.
