KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has taken immediate action to address maintenance issues along Jalan Semeba after resident councillors discovered overgrown grass during a recent site inspection.

Resident Councillor for MPP Zone 5, covering the 3rd Mile, Maong Bazaar, Arang, Semeba and Kung Phin areas, Alvin Chong Nyuk Fah together with Leng Chai Mendu, conducted the inspection to assess the condition of public facilities and municipal services within the zone.

During the visit, Chong observed overgrown grass along sections of earth drains at Jalan Semeba and subsequently instructed council officers to investigate the matter and coordinate the necessary maintenance works.

According to Chong, council officers found that the issue stemmed from the failure of a term contractor to carry out grass-cutting works according to the required maintenance schedule.

“The council takes this matter seriously as it directly affects the living environment of residents.

“I have informed the MPP chairman and instructed the relevant officers to look into the matter immediately and ensure that the necessary corrective action is taken,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Jun 11).

Chong added that appropriate action would also be considered against the contractor concerned to prevent a recurrence of similar issues.

He said MPP remains committed to maintaining a clean, safe and well-managed environment for residents and will continue monitoring the situation closely.

Chong also encouraged residents to report maintenance-related issues in their neighbourhoods to help the council identify problems on the ground and improve service delivery.

“Community feedback plays an important role in helping us identify issues on the ground and improve service delivery.

“We will continue to work together with the relevant parties to ensure the area remains clean, safe and well maintained,” he said.

Residents in the area may contact resident councillors for assistance and feedback, including Chong at 012-844 2885, Councillor Gerald Goh at 019-816 5368 and Councillor Leng Chai at 011-3444 1111.
