BINTULU: Construction of new staff quarters for the Department of Chemistry Malaysia’s Bintulu branch has reached nearly 30 per cent completion, replacing ageing accommodation facilities.

The project has reached 29.88 per cent physical progress and is currently on track with its implementation schedule.

Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak said Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, visited the project site on Wednesday to inspect the progress and receive a briefing on the works.

“The construction of the new quarters forms part of the government’s continuous efforts to improve facilities and the well-being of civil servants through the provision of better and more sustainable infrastructure.

“The visit also enabled the ministry to review the project’s progress and ensure the facilities will meet the present and future needs of Department of Chemistry Malaysia’s personnel in Bintulu,” the department said in a statement.

The development involves the construction of two-storey Class C semi-detached houses as well as five-storey quarters for Class E and Class G personnel.

It also includes related structural, architectural and finishing works.
