KUCHING: Efforts to encourage healthy living through the importance of breakfast and community engagement were emphasised at MILO Malaysia Breakfast Day (MBD) 2026.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the programme aligns with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 vision, which emphasises the importance of developing a healthy and productive society alongside economic and technological progress.
“A city or a country not only needs smart people, but it also needs healthy people,” he told reporters during the MILO Malaysia Breakfast Day (MDB) 2026 at Kuching Community Hall today (June 14).
Wee added that the strong turnout demonstrated growing public awareness of health and wellness, describing the event as one of the largest crowds he had witnessed at a community programme.

“You can see a combination of all ages and races, and everybody came to support this programme on the importance of breakfast,” he said.
He said breakfast should not be overlooked despite increasingly busy lifestyles, as healthy daily habits contribute to better productivity and overall quality of life.
“Health is more important than anything else. Without health, you do not have the foundation to sustain whatever you want to build,” he said.
MILO® consumer marketing manager Andrew Yoon said the programme was created to encourage Malaysians to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular exercise and balanced breakfast habits.
He said breakfast remains an important occasion for families to connect while encouraging healthier daily routines.
“For me, breakfast is all about eating healthy. Breakfast is also one of the few times other than lunch and dinner where you can spend time with your family.
“This is very important because this is where we bond relationships over a meal and where memories are all made from,” he said.

He said the event combines family activities with wellness initiatives through a 3km walk and opportunities for participants to enjoy breakfast together.
Yoon said the Kuching edition formed part of the 10th instalment of MILO MBD and was expected to draw around 10,000 participants, including about 5,000 registered runners and accompanying family members, friends and walk-in visitors.
“Next weekend, we will be in Kuantan, followed by Kota Bharu and a big kickoff ending in Putrajaya,” he said.
Meanwhile, CEO of Nestle Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei’s CEO, Juan Aranols said MILO MBD 2026 is not only associated with breakfast and sports but has also become an event that brings communities together.
“It’s so beautiful to see thousands of people gathering together, families with young kids, getting up very early and being part of this.
“So thanks for the support. And we will bring back the MBD to Kuching again in 2027,” he said.
