HUNGARY: The knowledge, expertise and international exposure gained by Sarawakians abroad can contribute significantly to shaping Sarawak’s future development.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the state government recognises and values the contributions of Sarawakians living overseas.
“As Sarawak moves forward, we look forward to closer engagement with Sarawakians around the world,” he said at a gathering with the Sarawakian community here organised by the Embassy of Malaysia in Budapest in conjunction with the official visit of the Sarawak government delegation to Hungary and Austria recently.
Awang Tengah added that Sarawak continues to gain international recognition through initiatives in renewable energy, the hydrogen economy, sustainable development and economic transformation under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
According to him, Sarawakians overseas also contribute to strengthening Sarawak’s international standing through their achievements in different sectors.
He described every Sarawakian abroad as an ambassador for the state whose accomplishments help elevate Sarawak’s image globally.
He also praised the Sarawakian community in Hungary for fostering strong unity and supporting fellow Sarawakians who move there for education and employment opportunities.
On a separate matter, Awang Tengah expressed appreciation to the Embassy of Malaysia in Budapest for facilitating the delegation’s programmes and engagements throughout the official study visit.
He said the close cooperation between the embassy and the Sarawak government reflects the strong relationship between the federal and Sarawak governments in advancing Malaysia’s international presence.
During the mission, the delegation is scheduled to engage with government agencies, city authorities, planning institutions and industry organisations in Hungary and Austria to exchange knowledge and best practices in smart city planning, border economic development, logistics connectivity, renewable energy and sustainable urban development.
He said the insights gained from the visit are expected to support preparations for the Limbang-Lawas Local Plan 2035 and contribute to wider development initiatives under the Northern Growth Corridor.
“Our objective is simple. We are here to learn and to exchange ideas,” he said, adding that collaboration and knowledge-sharing are essential to developing innovative solutions and achieving sustainable growth for future generations.
