PAKAN: The private sector continues to play a vital role in accelerating the transformation of Sarawak’s agricultural sector towards a more modern and competitive future.
Advisor in the Premier’s Office (Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development) Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said strategic collaboration between the government and the private sector must be further strengthened to enhance the state’s food production capacity.
Mawan said the private sector plays an important role through investments as well as research and development (R&D) activities that can support the advancement of the agricultural industry.
He said the adoption of modern technology and innovation also helps improve productivity, operational efficiency and the optimal use of resources.
“The transformation of the agricultural sector requires the support of all stakeholders, including the private sector, which has the capability to introduce new technologies and approaches to the industry,” he said during the closing ceremony of Pakan Agrofest held here recently.
Mawan, who is also Pakan assemblyman, said among the technologies gaining increasing attention are smart farming, farm automation and mechanisation, environmentally friendly packaging, and the use of renewable energy.
He said the adoption of such technologies can help increase agricultural output while reducing dependence on conventional labour.
He added that the technologies introduced must be accessible, practical and affordable for farmers and agropreneurs throughout Sarawak.
