TEBEDU: More than RM1.3 million has been allocated and proposed for water supply improvement projects in the constituency to strengthen coverage and ensure a more stable supply for residents.

The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Serian said one project under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) had been approved, while four new projects worth an estimated RM1.252 million were awaiting approval.

An additional RM1 million allocation has also been provided through the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) to support water infrastructure upgrades in the area.

Meanwhile, six more projects valued at RM63,000 have been proposed under alternative funding arrangements to address water supply needs at several identified locations.

The updates were presented during the district action committee (DAC) meeting, chaired by Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada at the Tebedu District Office on Monday (Jun 15).

The meeting also discussed disruptions to treated water supply affecting residents of Kampung Pichin and Plaman Nyabet, as well as measures being taken by the relevant agencies to resolve the issue.

Among the major projects currently underway is the proposed upgrading of the Serian-Kuching main water pipeline in Serian Division, which carries an estimated cost of RM247.05 million.

The high impact project is expected to increase the capacity of the water distribution system and reduce the risk of supply disruptions in the affected areas.

Another ongoing project involves the upgrading and replacement of pipelines along Jalan Baki-Riih at a cost of RM3.5 million to improve the stability, efficiency and resilience of the water supply system.
