SIBU: Sting Muaythai Club emerged as the dominant force at the Sibu Amateur Muaythai Challenge 2026 after collecting 10 gold and five silver medals to clinch the overall title at Dewan MUC Sibu.

Phoenix Meranek Club finished second overall, while Tugau Muaythai Club completed the podium in third place.

The two-day championship attracted 120 participants representing 20 clubs, including teams from West Kalimantan, Indonesia, with supporters packing the venue and creating a lively atmosphere throughout the competition.

Among the standout performances was Ar Rayyan Abdullah of DMT X Rentap Muaythai Gym, who defeated Kevin Wong Long of Eagle Muaythai in the 71kg-75kg category.

Muhd Qayyum Habibullah added to Sting’s successful campaign by overcoming Brian Issac Rhonald of PS Muaythai Bintulu in the 57kg-60kg division.

The crowd was also treated to an entertaining contest in the 54kg-57kg category, where Danny Huang Hng Peng of Warmonger Training Academy defeated Paullinus Akui Lea of West Borneo Muaythai Club.

Another notable bout saw Peter Alexzender Chandrasagaran of SS Muaythai Gym defeat Ahmad Shahrizal Wafid of Legacy Muaythai in the 44kg-46kg category.

In the women’s 45kg-48kg division, Fatiha Hanum of Phoenix Meranek Club got the better of Marsanda Ika from West Borneo Muaythai Club.

Organised by the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) in collaboration with the Sibu Muaythai Association, the championship served as a platform for athletes to test themselves against competitors from across Sarawak and beyond.

The event received official sanction from the Sports Commissioner’s Office and support from the Malaysian Muaythai Association (PMM), the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC).

Prizes were presented by Sarawak Youth and Sports Department director Lamat Nyalau.

Also present were Sibu Municipal Council representative Cr Kamalludin Ang Hamdan and PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim.
