ACTRESS and television host Che Puan Sarimah Ibrahim has revealed that she personally funded a special screening of the film ‘Konspirasi’, organised in collaboration with nongovernmental organisation (NGO) Empati, which took place on Tuesday.

Sarimah, 48, said the private screening had been planned for quite some time, dating back to when the film was first released in cinemas.

“We had been planning this special screening with Empati, our fan club and children from FELDA communities for quite a while.

“I don’t mind investing my own money to book a cinema and organise an event like this. It is an initiative undertaken through my company, Sarimah Ibrahim Sdn Bhd.

“Besides celebrating the FELDA children, friends and family members who attended, the film also carries important messages that can be shared with the audience.

“At the very least, the event helps raise awareness about Empati itself.

Many people have been asking about the organisation and the role it plays within the community,” she said.

Asked whether she had received any explanation from the producers regarding the film’s sudden withdrawal from cinemas, Sarimah said she had yet to be given any clarification.

“No, I haven’t received any explanation so I cannot comment on the matter.

That was also why I raised the question earlier.

“But when no answer is given, we have to respect that.

It is not our place to keep asking or to put pressure on anyone,” she said.

‘Konspirasi’, directed by Ghaz Abu, was pulled from cinemas on May 28 at the request of its producer, Elepfilm Entertainment Sdn Bhd.

The film, which also stars Datuk Adi Putra, Hisyam Hamid, Shiqin Kamal, Alicia Amin, Amir Nafis and Rusdi Ramli, opened in 120 cinema screens nationwide on May 21.

Despite its withdrawal from Malaysian cinemas, screenings of ‘Konspirasi’ in Singapore have continued as scheduled.
