KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has called for a more harmonious and prudent approach to dakwah activities in Sarawak.
The message was conveyed during a courtesy call by a Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) delegation on the Premier at Satria Pertiwi Complex here today (June 19).
Yadim President, Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom, said the Premier shared his views on conducting dakwah programmes in a manner that respects Sarawak’s multicultural setting while strengthening inter-community relations.
“One of the things that excited me most was how the Premier shared his advice and views on how YADIM can carry out dakwah in a more prudent and harmonious manner within Sarawak’s society and among the different races in the state,” he told reporters after the meeting.
He said the discussion also touched on efforts to ensure dakwah activities are carried out sensitively and do not give rise to issues that could affect social harmony.

Meanwhile, Hasan said the Sarawak leg of the National Dakwah Programme is expected to be held between September and November this year.
He said details of the programme, including the venue and dates, would be discussed further with Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The programme is expected to involve government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), religious leaders, youths and university students through a series of engagements and gatherings.
Hasan said the initiative, which has been implemented nationwide for the past three years, aims to promote greater understanding, unity and social harmony among Malaysians.
“The focus is to create a harmonious, peaceful and united society,” he added.
“All segments of society must understand and appreciate this aspiration so that we can build a nation that is peaceful, harmonious and stable.”
The programme will be held in all states before culminating in the ‘Sama’ Hadis’ event in Putrajaya, which is expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
