MIRI: Police intensified crime prevention efforts across the district on Friday night, deploying officers to residential areas, major roads and entertainment outlets in a large scale operation.

The integrated crime prevention operations saw 30 police personnel, including four senior officers, mobilised throughout the district as part of an ongoing effort to maintain law and order while keeping potential offenders under close watch.

Roadblocks, mobile patrols, snap checks, and inspections of entertainment outlets were conducted during the operations, which began at 10:00 pm following a briefing at the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri).

Police said the operations formed part of its “omnipresence” strategy, a proactive policing approach designed to increase visibility in public spaces and discourage criminal activity before it occurs.

Roadblock teams issued 12 summonses for various traffic offences, including driving without a valid licence, vehicle modifications, the use of non-compliant registration plates, missing side mirrors, and expired road tax.

The operations extended beyond enforcement activities, with patrol teams conducting checks in housing estates, villages and along major roads to monitor the security situation and engage with the community.

Police said a visible law enforcement presence remains one of the most effective deterrents against crime, while also providing reassurance to residents that public safety continues to be a priority.

Entertainment outlets were also inspected during the operations as part of efforts to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent unlawful activities.

Miri Deputy Police Chief, Supt Mohd Syafiq Jinuin Abdullah, had earlier briefed officers involved in the operations before they were deployed to their respective assignments.

IPD Miri said similar operations would continue from time to time as part of its commitment to reducing crime, enhancing public security, and maintaining a safe environment for residents and visitors alike.

The latest operations reflect the district police’s continued emphasis on proactive policing, with officers maintaining a strong presence on the ground to prevent crime rather than merely responding to it.
