KUCHING: Police arrested two local men and seized over 2kg of suspected cannabis in separate raids here on Wednesday (Jun 24).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said officers from the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division also seized a BMW car believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking activities.

He said the first raid was conducted at premises in Jalan Stampin Timur, where a 22-year-old local man was arrested.

A second raid at a house in Jalan Bako led to the arrest of another local man, aged 24.

“Police seized 2,153.43 grammes of suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of RM6,000.

“A BMW car worth an estimated RM40,000 was also seized as it is believed to have been acquired through drug trafficking activities,” he said.

Alexson said preliminary urine screening tests found both suspects negative for drugs.

Checks also revealed that the 22-year-old suspect had no previous criminal record, while the 24-year-old suspect had one prior criminal record.

Both suspects have been remanded for seven days from today until Jul 2 to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
