LUNDU: Lundu Hospital will undergo infrastructure upgrades following the announcement of a RM600,000 allocation aimed at improving facilities and enhancing the comfort of patients, visitors and healthcare workers.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman, Azizul Annuar Adenan, said the allocation would be used to upgrade facilities at the hospital, which has been in operation since 1965, including repairs to its internal roads that have been identified as a priority.

He announced the allocation when officiating at the closing of the Gawai celebration organised by the Lundu Hospital Dayak Community at the hospital’s tennis court on Thursday (June 25).

According to him, the upgrading works are crucial to ensure the hospital continues to provide a safe, conducive and quality environment for the community seeking treatment.

Azizul said the need for infrastructure repairs was raised by Lundu Hospital Director, Dr Chin Shi How, following concerns over the condition of roads within the hospital compound, which require immediate attention to ensure users’ safety.

Azizul reaffirmed his commitment, together with Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, to continue advocating for the construction of a new Lundu Hospital under the federal government.

He said a site for the proposed new hospital had already been identified and follow-up efforts would continue to ensure the development of a modern healthcare facility capable of meeting the needs of residents in Lundu district.

At the same event, Azizul also approved an allocation of RM20,000 through the Hospital Visitors’ Board for the purchase of Interferential Current (IFC) equipment for Lundu Hospital’s Physiotherapy Unit to strengthen rehabilitation services for patients.

Also present were Dr Chin and senior environmental health officer from the Lundu District Health Office, Yap Ering.
