MUKAH: Three local men landed in police custody after separate cases exposed suspected drug abuse, including one allegedly caught with methamphetamine.

Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the first case stemmed from a raid by narcotics police in front of a house along Jalan Pinang yesterday (Tuesday, June 30).

Two local men, aged 25 and 38, were detained in the operations.

“A straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing about 0.45 gramme, was seized from the younger suspect. No prohibited items were found on the older suspect.

“Both suspects were taken to the District Police Headquarters (IPD), where urine screening tests found them positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

The 25-year-old has been remanded until July 4 to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and drug consumption.

The 38-year-old, who is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, was released on police bail pending prosecution.

In a separate case later the same day, Rizal said police arrested another suspected drug offender while investigating the alleged theft of oil palm fruits.

“The 30-year-old man, who had been detained by plantation security guards for allegedly stealing oil palm fruits along Jalan Mukah-Selangau, underwent a urine screening test at the IPD.

“His test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

He stated that the suspect is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

The suspect has been remanded for two days until July 2 to assist with investigations.
