HYDERABAD, India: At least seven workers were crushed to death by a boulder at a stone quarry in the southern Indian state of Karnataka today.

Five people were also injured in the incident at the quarry operated by Kaveri Company near Bengaluru city, local media reported.

Excavation work was underway when the huge rock fell on the workers from a height of about 40 feet.

An excavator operator cited in a Hindustan Times report said that it took “only a few seconds” before one side of the hill collapsed, and the workers had no time to react.

Karnataka Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, warned that the government will take appropriate action against quarries that violate safety regulations. – BERNAMA
