KUCHING: Police will intensify patrols in Jalan Arang following concerns over crime raised by residents in the area.

Deputy Padawan District Police Chief Daram Ruer said officers would increase their presence with support from personnel from the Kota Sentosa Police Station.

“We will carry out patrols as often as possible to assist residents in the Jalan Arang area.

“We cannot promise there will be zero crime because crime exists wherever opportunities arise, especially in developing areas, but we will do our best to address the problem,” he said during a community dialogue organised by Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang at the Taman Mewah Basketball Court here today (July 4).

The dialogue brought together representatives from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the police to address issues affecting the local community.

Daram also urged residents to report emergencies immediately by calling 999 or contacting the patrol vehicle hotline displayed on police vehicles.

He encouraged homeowners, particularly those living in higher value properties, to install functioning closed circuit television (CCTV) systems to help deter criminal activity and assist investigations.

Lo said the dialogue was intended to provide residents with a direct platform to voice concerns to the agencies most closely involved in addressing issues frequently raised by the community, including public safety, water supply, municipal services and housing.

“What you bring up today represents many people who may not speak up but have the same issues, the same problems and the same questions,” he said.
