KUCHING: Sarawak’s development must be matched by a healthy and active population, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said every individual has a role to play in maintaining good health through an active lifestyle.

“A prosperous Sarawak needs healthy and active people.

“Every individual has a role in staying healthy through an active lifestyle,” he said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai during the finale of the 15th Sarawak Sunrise Aerodance Tour here today (July 5), which attracted more than 500 participants.

He said regular activities such as aerodance, walking and running help reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases while improving physical and mental well-being.

Dr Sim said programmes such as the statewide aerodance tour also promote social inclusion by bringing together people of all ages, races and backgrounds.

“Regardless of age, race, occupation or background, everyone can participate, encourage one another and strengthen relationships within the community,” he said.

He urged government agencies, local authorities, community groups and the private sector to organise more accessible health and recreational programmes by making better use of parks, public spaces and community facilities.

Although the Kuching event marked the finale of this year’s statewide tour, Dr Sim encouraged participants to continue exercising regularly and inspire their family members, friends and colleagues to adopt healthier lifestyles.
