KUCHING: More than 2,000 visitors attended the inaugural Sorong-Sorong Market at Tinyport over the weekend, marking a strong debut for the community-driven creative marketplace.
The event, held from July 3 to 5, ran from 4 pm to 12 am, bringing together local entrepreneurs, food vendors, artists, collectors, and creative businesses under one roof.
Originally launched as Tinyslush, a festive beverage concept, Tinyport has since evolved into a dedicated community space that hosts a rotating lineup of local vendors and events.
The Sorong-Sorong Market was introduced to provide small businesses with a platform to showcase their products, foster collaboration, and strengthen the local creative economy.
Visitors explored a diverse range of offerings, including artisanal food, handcrafted desserts, pre-loved fashion, vinyl collections, live DJ performances, custom cat portrait illustrations, and various community booths.
The inaugural edition featured a lineup of participating vendors, including Fareena Dessert, Jajanan, Nurha, Boengaaaaaa, Black Box, Fa’vlova, Tressusu, The Colek, Ayden’s Signature, Futura Pizza, El Jefe, Arabyrd Archives, Toko Pernah Sayang, Anok Jak, OTW, and Rigs.
According to the organisers, the overwhelming response reflected Kuching’s growing appetite for thoughtfully curated community events that support local talent, independent brands, and creative entrepreneurship.
“We’ve always believed that people are looking for more than just a place to eat or shop; they’re looking for spaces where they can gather, discover something new, and feel part of a community,” the Tinyport team said.
“Sorong-Sorong was created to give local businesses a platform while creating an enjoyable experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
“Seeing over 2,000 people come together for our first edition is incredibly encouraging,” the team added.
Following the successful debut, Tinyport plans to expand the Sorong-Sorong Market into a recurring community event, providing more opportunities for local vendors, artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs while continuing to strengthen Kuching’s creative ecosystem.
