MIRI: Enforcement officers have uncovered a suspected operation involving the illegal diversion of controlled diesel and petrol during coordinated raids on two petrol stations in Bekenu, with total seizures valued at more than RM126,000.

The operation was carried out by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Miri Branch following intelligence gathering and surveillance conducted outside the stations’ operating hours.

During the raids, enforcement officers inspected several suspicious vehicles parked within the premises before uncovering what they believe was an active fuel transfer operation.

Diesel and petrol were allegedly being siphoned into plastic containers and steel drums placed beside and behind the vehicles.

Authorities seized an estimated 140 litres of diesel and 530 litres of petrol, with the controlled fuel valued at approximately RM1,348.70.

The total value of the seizure, including the vehicles and other equipment believed to have been used in the operation, is estimated at RM126,759.60.

KPDN has opened two investigation papers against the petrol stations under Regulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, while two additional cases involving the vehicles are being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The ministry said investigations are ongoing under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Upon conviction, individuals face fines of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, with substantially heavier penalties for repeat offenders. Companies may be fined up to RM2 million, rising to RM5 million for subsequent offences.

KPDN said it would continue stepping up enforcement operations to curb the illegal diversion and leakage of controlled goods, particularly subsidised fuel, warning that firm action would be taken against any individual or business found violating the law.

The ministry also urged members of the public to report suspected offences through its official complaint channels, including WhatsApp, the e-Aduan KPDN portal, the KPDN Call Centre and the Ez ADU KPDN mobile
