SARATOK: A man’s refusal to grant his wife’s demand for a divorce allegedly sparked a violent confrontation that ended with him being slashed with a pair of scissors on Tuesday (Jul 7).
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the 24-year-old housewife was taken into custody by police shortly after the incident in Kampung Kabong.
Initial investigations found that the 28-year-old victim, an oil palm plantation worker, was at his house when his wife arrived insisting that he divorce her.
“He told her the matter should be resolved through the court, but the suspect allegedly flew into a rage, damaging household items before grabbing an 18cm pair of clothing scissors and lunging at him.
“Although the victim managed to evade the attack, he suffered scratches to the left side of his waist,” he said.
Police also found that prior to the incident, the suspect had allegedly sent WhatsApp messages threatening to kill her husband and their child if he refused to end their marriage.
Mathew said the victim sought treatment at Kabong Clinic, where doctors found four abrasion marks on his left flank with no active bleeding.
Medical findings indicated the injuries were consistent with an alleged assault involving scissors, with the victim having narrowly avoided the blade.
“The suspect was later arrested at her home and police managed to seize the pair of scissors believed to have been used in the attack.
“A urine screening on the woman returned negative for drugs,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and criminal intimidation.
