KUCHING: Fourteen outstanding vendors and contractors were recognised for their excellence in procurement, project delivery, regulatory compliance and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) performance at the Sarawak Energy Vendor Excellence Awards (SEVEA) 2026.

Held at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here on Wednesday under the theme “Recognising Excellence, Powering Success Together”, the awards celebrated industry partners’ contributions towards strengthening Sarawak’s energy sector while supporting the state’s sustainable development goals.

The ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who said platforms such as SEVEA play an important role in recognising industry partners and raising standards across the energy sector.

“When the government, industry, local enterprises and communities work together towards a shared vision, we create not only economic growth, but also a more resilient, inclusive and prosperous Sarawak.

“Likewise, excellence is no longer optional. It must define the way we govern, innovate, protect our people and the environment, and deliver outcomes that are globally competitive,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said vendors and contractors remain crucial in providing specialised expertise and operational support to ensure reliable utility services across Sarawak.

“The ministry continues to undertake numerous initiatives to expand utility coverage through the development of new networks, the strengthening of existing systems and enhancement works to improve service reliability throughout Sarawak.

“These initiatives reflect our commitment to ensuring every Sarawakian has access to quality electricity, water and telecommunications services, while creating opportunities that improve livelihoods and support inclusive growth across the state,” he said.

To date, Sarawak Energy has approved more than RM139 million under its Vendor Development Programme and Vendor Financing Programme, enabling local businesses to enhance their capabilities and expand participation in the state’s growing energy industry.

Among the award recipients, Metro Mekar Sdn Bhd received the CECA 2025 Gold Award for its Kemena Holding Sdn Bhd Samalaju Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) Ancillary Package, while three contractors — Satria Kaya Sdn Bhd, Gabungan Binaan Jurutenaga Sdn Bhd and Metro Mekar Sdn Bhd — received the CTP 2025 Gold Award for HSE excellence.

The awards also recognised service providers, consultants and Bumiputera partners for their contributions in supporting Sarawak Energy’s operations and development initiatives.
