BEIJING: At least 28 people died in a blaze that engulfed a shoe factory in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian on Thursday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novostic citing a China Central Television report.
The fire broke out at around 12 pm local time (04:00 GMT) at the Huiteng shoe factory in the city of Jinjiang. Over 180 firefighters and 35 fire engines were sent to the scene.
Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered a thorough investigation into the deadly blaze and demanded that those responsible be held accountable. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
