BETONG: The upgrading of the Lubau water treatment plant, which will double its production capacity from 30 million litres per day (MLD) to 60 MLD, has reached 45 per cent physical completion, five per cent ahead of schedule.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the upgraded facility would become one of the main water treatment plants serving Betong Division upon completion, alongside the Kaki Wong Water Treatment Plant in Saratok, which is also being upgraded from 30 MLD to 60 MLD.

“The Licuk water treatment plant in Saratok currently has a capacity of 25 MLD,” he said in his Facebook post on Thursday (Jul 9) after inspecting the project site.

Julaihi also said two additional water supply projects are underway in Betong Division involving the installation of pipeline grid systems from Betong junction to the surrounding areas of Saratok and from Betong junction to the surrounding areas of Pusa.

He said all the Sarawak government-funded water supply projects would eventually form a comprehensive water grid system across Betong Division.

According to him, the integrated system is expected to strengthen and stabilise water supply for communities throughout the division.

Also present during the site visit were Betong MP Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication permanent secretary Datuk Jafri Lias, and Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director Datuk Awang Mohd Fadhilah Awang Redzuan.
