KUCHING: The Tabuan Jaya Health Clinic will commence operations on July 20, marking a significant boost to primary healthcare access for residents in Tabuan Jaya and surrounding areas.

Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the RM23.2-million Type 2 Health Clinic facility would serve between 800 and 1,000 patients daily.

“This clinic is expected to serve 800 to 1,000 patients, benefiting not only Tabuan Jaya residents but also those from Stutong and parts of Samarahan, including areas up to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS),” he said in his Facebook post recently.

Dr Sim said the handover of the new clinic from the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) to the Ministry of Health (MOH) on July 9 marked the completion of a long-awaited project.

He said the project was part of the Ministry of Health’s 10th Malaysia Plan (2010–2015) under Rolling Plan 1, and after three rounds of tender exercises, the contract was finally awarded to the successful contractor in December 2021.

“Originally, the project was supposed to be completed in June 2024. However, there was an Extension of Time (EOT) due to additional requirements from BOMBA, which resulted in further delays,” he said.

Dr Sim added that the clinic is expected to receive its first patient on July 20.

“As it is a public clinic, anyone can seek treatment here, but priority will be given to those who live around the area,” he said.

Meanwhile, MOH in its statement said the opening of the new facility is aimed at enhancing access to primary healthcare services while offering more comfortable and efficient medical care to communities in the surrounding areas.

It said further details on the range of services provided at the clinic will be announced from time to time.
