SIBU: The ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ Programme for Sibu Division, the fifth in its series, is set to witness a record turnout.

State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, is optimistic that the Sibu edition will surpass the SKS Programme in Kapit Division which recorded 38,000 visitors, owing to Sibu’s strategic location and excellent road connectivity.

“Sibu, due to its central location including good road network, is easily accessible to people from surrounding towns and divisions such as Sarikei, Mukah, Kapit, Kanowit and even Bintulu.

“Therefore I am confident that the number of visitors to the SKS programme here will exceed the 38,000 visitors recorded in Kapit,” he told reporters after performing the soft launch of SKS Sibu Division today.

Abu Bakar invited people from across the central region to attend the three-day programe, describing it as a one-stop centre for a wide-range of government services.

“I would like to invite not only the people of Sibu, but also those from Kapit, Sarikei, Mukah, Kanowit, Bintulu, and nearby areas to visit the ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ programme.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the assistance, services, and initiatives provided by the Sarawak Government,” he said.

Commenting on his walkabout during the event, Abu Bakar said he was encouraged by the positive public response.

“I am pleased to see such a strong response from the public. This shows that our initiative to bring government agencies and services closer to the people is achieving its objective,” he added.

Based on his observation, he said the information and services provided by the participating agencies have proven beneficial to visitors from both Sibu and other parts of the state.

Abu Bakar said this year’s ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ programme places greater emphasis on service delivery by focusing on identifying the type of assistance and services sought by the people.

“Through this programme, we are able to identify the assistance and benefits that can be offered to them in various areas, including economic development, social welfare, education, community development, and employment opportunities.

“Many government agencies are participating, and they provide a wide range of information. Even I discovered new information about some of the services available. I believe visitors will also gain a better understanding of the assistance and programmes offered by the government,” he concluded.

Among those accompanying him was Deputy State Secretary (Operation), Datuk Hii Chang Kee.
