Premier joins 3,000 worshippers for Friday prayers at An-Nur Mosque

SIBU: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg performed Friday prayers with about 3,000 worshippers at the An-Nur Mosque here today, reflecting his leadership style of maintaining close engagement with the community during his official visits throughout the state.

He arrived at the mosque at about 12:30 pm, and was welcomed by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, and Sibu An-Nur Mosque Committee Chairman, Ustaz Ghaiazra Mohammad Ali.

Also present were State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, and Malay paramount community leader, Temenggung Datuk Seri Wan Hamid Edruce.

Prior to the prayers, the congregation listened to a sermon entitled ‘The Privileges of Friday and the Obligatory Friday Prayer’, while the prayers were led by Sarawak Grand Imam, Sahibul Fadilah Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

After the prayers, Abang Johari spent about 20 minutes mingling with worshippers and shaking hands with those who took the opportunity to meet him.

His working visit to Sibu continued with his attendance at the Sibu, Kapit and Mukah Zone Loyal Service Medal Presentation Ceremony at RH Hotel in the afternoon, followed by a dinner with the Sibu community leaders at Kingwood Hotel in the evening.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Abang Johari is scheduled to officiate the Sibu Division’s ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ (SKS) Programme at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang at 10:30 am.
